Things to keep in mind when traveling to Argentina

When traveling to Argentina, a country famous for its beautiful landscapes and rich culture, you should keep in mind the following things to have a safe, enjoyable and smooth trip:

1. Language
Spanish is the official language of Argentina. Although people in major tourist areas can communicate in basic English, knowing a few basic Spanish phrases will help you communicate easily and make a good impression on the locals.

2. Currency and payment
The Argentine Peso (ARS) is the main currency. You should have some cash on hand as small shops and services such as taxis often do not accept cards. The exchange rate can fluctuate, so check and change your money before you go.
Currency Exchange: You should exchange some money at the bank or airport before entering the city. Be careful of unofficial money exchange places to avoid risks.

3. Travel insurance
Argentina is a large country with many outdoor activities such as mountain climbing, hiking, and exploring untouched lands. Travel insurance is essential to ensure you have peace of mind while experiencing these activities and to help minimize medical expenses if necessary.

4. Security and safety
As with any other destination, you should be careful with your personal belongings to avoid theft, especially in crowded places such as markets, bus stations, and tourist areas.
Some areas in Buenos Aires can be unsafe at night, so do your research before you go and always travel in a group if possible.

5. Weather and clothing
Argentina has a wide range of weather due to its size, from subtropical in the north to temperate in the south. You should check the weather for each region you plan to visit and pack appropriate clothing, especially if you are going to Patagonia or the Andes mountains where the weather can change dramatically.

6. Local cuisine
Argentina is famous for its asado steak and Malbec wine. Be sure to try these specialties to get a taste of the country's rich culinary culture. However, if you have a sensitive digestive system, you should try them slowly to avoid stomach upset.

7. Customs and culture
Argentines are friendly and love to chat, especially when it comes to football – their pride. If you are a football fan, don’t hesitate to join in on conversations about famous clubs like Boca Juniors or River Plate.
A small note is that you should limit mentioning sensitive topics about politics or economic issues to avoid causing misunderstandings.

8. Domestic travel
Buses and planes are popular ways to travel between major cities. If you want to save money, Argentina's intercity bus system is well developed and convenient.
In major cities, you can use taxis, Uber, or the metro system (in Buenos Aires). However, be careful not to hail a taxi on the street, but call one via an app to ensure safety.

9. Tipping culture
In Argentina, it is common to tip 10% – 15% for waiters, especially in restaurants and bars. Tipping is a way to show respect and also helps to create goodwill with the waiter.
