May to November is the rainy season, but travel during this season is usually cheaper and there are fewer tourists.

2. Language

Spanish is the main language. However, many residents and tourism industry workers also speak English, especially in Panama City.

3. Currency

The US Dollar (USD) and Balboa (PAB) are both used in Panama, but banknotes are only in USD, while Balboas are only in coins. This makes it easy for visitors to use their money without having to exchange it first.

4. Prepare SIM or Wi-Fi

Carriers like Claro and Movistar offer travel SIM plans with reasonable prices and reliable internet speeds. You can buy SIM cards at the airport or convenience stores.

5. Safety

Safety in Panama is quite good, but you should be careful to avoid certain areas that are less secure at night. Areas like Casco Viejo and downtown Panama City are safer.

6. Travel

Uber and taxis are popular and affordable options in Panama City. For rural areas, you can rent a car or take the bus. When taking the bus or train, you will need a reloadable Metrobus card.

7. Explore cuisine

Panama has many unique traditional dishes such as sancocho (chicken soup), ceviche (seafood marinated in lemon), and hojaldra (fried doughnuts). Try these at traditional markets to experience the local flavors.

8. Respect local culture and customs

Panamanians are friendly and hospitable, but you should be careful not to film or take photos in military areas or sensitive locations.

9. Prepare documents and travel insurance

You should bring your passport, return air ticket and travel insurance to be safe. If you intend to stay for more than 90 days, check visa requirements in advance.

These tips will help you have a smooth trip to Panama and enjoy the best things this country has to offer.
