Things to note when traveling in Peru

When traveling in Peru, you need to keep in mind the following experiences to have a smooth and safe trip:

Health preparation: Peru is high altitude, especially in areas like Cusco and Machu Picchu. Take altitude sickness medication and acclimatize yourself to the altitude when you arrive.

Climate test: The climate in Peru varies by region and season. Bring appropriate clothing, including a warm jacket and rain gear if you are visiting mountainous areas.

Keep your personal belongings safe: Always keep your belongings and money safe, especially in crowded areas such as markets, bus stations or famous tourist attractions to avoid theft.

Respect local culture: Peru has a diverse culture, especially with indigenous people in the highlands. Please respect customs and traditions and ask permission if you want to take photos of locals.

Try the specialties carefully: Traditional Peruvian cuisine is very diverse, but you should try it gradually and choose safe, hygienic restaurants to avoid digestive problems.

Always carry cash and use the right kind of money: The official currency is the Peruvian Sol (PEN). Carry some cash, especially when visiting remote areas or local markets. US dollars are acceptable in some places, but it is recommended that you exchange them for Sol to avoid inconvenience and get a better exchange rate. Check your change carefully to avoid receiving counterfeit money.

Book tickets and tours in advance: Popular sites like Machu Picchu require advance booking due to high volume and limited access each day.

Be careful with vehicles: Traffic in some areas can be unsafe or chaotic, consider traveling by reputable taxi or professional transportation services.

Pay attention to drinking water: Avoid drinking tap water, use bottled water or boiled water to protect your health.

Learn some basic Spanish sentences: Many locals do not speak English, knowing some basic Spanish will help a lot.

By taking note of the above experiences, ABA VISA wishes you a memorable and safe trip in Peru.
